The purpose and operation of the project:
To produce district cooling (cold water) for companies around Kongens Nytorv. The cooling center at Adelgade has a cooling capacity of approx. 18 MW, where the possibilities are free cooling (direct cooling using seawater), absorption cooling (excess heat from the Amager plant) and finally compressor cooling. The absorption heat pump installed on Adelgade has a cooling power of 3.4 MW.
The chilled water circuit of the absorption heat pump produces cold water down to about 5° C. The evaporator in the chilled water circuit is directly connected to the remote cooling network. The heated return-cooling water is returned to the absorption heat pump evaporator, which transfers the energy to the heat pump absorber. The absorber is the passage of seawater that, in series with the heat pump condenser, ejects the heat into the sea. The heat pump absorber and condenser are with titanium pipes to withstand seawater. The heat pump’s propellant is steam at 8 bar, which means that the electricity consumption for such a machine is minimal.
SEG A/S role:
To supply, install and commission an absorption heat pump to the customer HORFOR and to teach the operating personnel in use of the machine.

- Design and energy calculations for the absorption heat pump.
- Absorption heat pump with associated components.
- Thermax absorption heat pump type SD 70B CX, dimensioned to provide 3.4 MW cooling.
