SEG A/S

Hillerød Utility

Project purpose and mode of operation:

In connection with the construction of a new wood chip-fired plant in 2011, SEG A/S had to supply an absorption chiller. The purpose was to achieve better cooling of the flue gas from the plant's wood chip plant and thereby increase efficiency. Using the absorption chiller and associated scrubber system, the flue gas temperature is currently around 35°C. The cooling capacity is 500 kW.

The absorption chiller's chilled water circuit is made of stainless steel, allowing the scrubber water to flow directly through it. The chilled water circuit produces as cold water as possible, which is led to the flue gas scrubber to cool the flue gas. Energy is absorbed from the flue gas and the heated water is returned to the chiller evaporator, which transfers the energy to the chiller absorber. The absorber is traversed by return district heating water, which is in series with the chiller's condenser. The condenser and absorber heat the district heating water to around 50°C and are shunted in the flow. The refrigeration machine is powered by district heating water at around 100°C, which means that the electricity consumption for such a machine is minimal.

SEG A/S role:

To deliver, install and commission an absorption chiller and train the operating staff in the use of the machine.

SEG A/S was a subcontractor to Eurotherm, which delivered the wood chip boiler and scrubber system to the end customer.

Description of the project content:

The absorption cooling system consisted of the following areas;

  • Project planning and energy calculations for the absorption chiller.
  • The absorption chiller and its components.
    • One Thermax absorption chiller type LT14 C SS, dimensioned to provide 0.5 MW of cooling.
