SEG A/S

KARA/NOVEREN I/S

Project purpose and mode of operation:

To provide comfort cooling for the new CHP plant - Energitårnet. Comfort cooling for the ventilation system and server room.

The absorption chiller's chilled water circuit produces cold water down to around 10°C, which is exchanged with the comfort cooling circuit. The absorbed heat from the comfort cooling circuit is directed back to the chiller's evaporator, which transfers the energy to the chiller's absorber. The absorber is passed through the cooling water circuit, which conducts energy up to the roof, where energy is rejected in the dry coolers. The refrigeration machine is powered by district heating water at around 100°C, which means that the electricity consumption for such a machine is minimal.

SEG A/S role:

To deliver, install and commission a complete absorption refrigeration system and train the operating staff in the use of the machine.

SEG A/S was a subcontractor to Martin GmbH (Munich, Germany), which was one of the contractors for end customer Kara/Noveren.

Description of the project content:

The absorption cooling system consisted of the following areas;

  • Project planning and energy calculations for the absorption chiller.
  • The absorption chiller and its components.
    • One piece of Thermax absorption chiller LT16 C, dimensioned to provide 0.5 MW of cooling.
  • Dry coolers on the roof.
    • 20 fans that dissipate the absorbed energy from the comfort cooling circuit.
  • Pipe connections, pumps and valves etc.
    • Sizing pipes, pumps and valves for the chiller's generator, condenser, absorber and evaporator circuits as well as pipe connections to the rooftop dry coolers.
  • Electrical, programming and control.
    • Preparation of the absorption cooling system's control and connection to the CHP plant's control room and associated electrical connections.
  • Preparation of final documentation
