SEG A/S

South Langeland District Heating a.m.b.a

Project purpose and mode of operation:

To cool the flow temperature of the water to the district heating plant's new solar collector system and thereby increase the efficiency of the solar collectors. The absorption chiller can provide 500 kW. Effective collector area of 12,500 m2 with an expected annual production of 7,500 MWh.

The absorption chiller's chilled water circuit produces cold water down to around 15°C, which is exchanged with the solar collector circuit. Energy is absorbed from the flow water to the solar collector circuit, which is fed back to the chiller's evaporator, transferring the energy to the chiller's absorber. The absorber is traversed by return district heating water, which in series with the chiller's condenser, delivers heated district heating water at around 50°C. This transfers heat from the flow water to the solar collector circuit into the district heating, thus improving the efficiency of the solar collector and utilizing the heat in the district heating network. The refrigeration machine is powered by district heating water at around 95°C, which means that the electricity consumption for such a machine is minimal.

SEG A/S role:

To deliver, install and commission an absorption chiller for the customer Sydlangeland Fjernvarme and to train the operating staff in the use of the machine.

Ramboll was involved as advisor on the assignment.

Description of the project content:

The absorption chiller consists of the following areas;

  • Project planning and energy calculations for the absorption chiller.
  • The absorption chiller and its components.
    • One Thermax absorption chiller type 5G3M C, dimensioned to provide 0.5 MW of cooling.
