Velux A/S

Project purpose and mode of operation:

To provide comfort and server room cooling for Velux's office facilities.

The absorption chiller's chilled water circuit produces cold water down to around 14°C, which is exchanged with the comfort cooling circuit. The absorbed heat from the comfort cooling circuit is directed back to the chiller's evaporator, which transfers the energy to the chiller's absorber. The absorber and condenser are normally connected in series, but Velux can switch the pipe connections. In the event (summer periods) that Velux cannot use the heat to heat the buildings or that the temperature difference between the evaporator and absorber becomes too great, the absorber power can be dissipated in dry coolers instead. This way, only the condenser effect is utilized. During winter periods, when the heating demand is sufficient, the chiller is normally connected with condenser and absorber in series, and both effects are utilized for heating buildings and domestic hot water. The refrigeration machine's fuel is heated water from its own gas boilers or solar collectors, which means that the electricity consumption of such a machine is minimal.

SEG A/S role:

To deliver, install and commission an absorption chiller and train the operating staff in the use of the machine.

Description of the project content:

The absorption chiller consists of the following areas;

  • Project planning and energy calculations for the absorption chiller.
  • The absorption chiller and its components.
    • One piece of Thermax absorption chiller type LT21 C, dimensioned to provide 0.5 MW of cooling.
